Don Baylor was fired as manager of the Larimer Knights today after team
owner John Dybala saw the box score from today's game versus rival
Sacramento, also known in the clubhouse as "the other Knights." The
problem wasn't so much the final score -- Larimer lost 8-6 -- but the
pitching line. Starter Tim Davis was pulled after only 1.1 innings, and he
had been perfect to that point, striking out 2.
"When I saw that, I panicked, because I thought he was injured," said
Dybala. "But there was no injury report. I don't know why Baylor pulled
him, but it cost us the game. And as far as I'm concerned, with this kind
of performance ... today, these past 11 games (Larimer is 3-8 this
season), and just in general ... it cost Baylor his job. Something has to
give. And I know we have a good staff, certainly a better staff than 3-8."
Included among the candidates for Baylor's job is Bill Clinton, who may
be unemployed himself before this season gets much older.
