PVBL: Kamloops Bears
New Owner Takes Over Dying Franchise

July 21, 1999

TRURO, N.S.(CP)- Paul Glass, the new owner and self appointed GM of the Truro Bears held his first press conference in front of a media throng of four reporters this afternoon. The first item on his agenda was the future of PVBL baseball in the Canadian Maritime town of Truro.

"The major problem with our team, is that we aren't making any money. Fans in the area have been making the two hour drive to Moncton to see the Moose play because they've been doing a great job promoting their team through Tim Horton's. We can't compete with them without that same corporate sponsorship."

It may be hard for the Bears to leave their 204 diehard season ticket holders behind but apparently the new ownership has already recieved several offers from cities interested in a PVBL franchise.

"We are going to stay in Canada, that's the only thing we've decided to this point. Our money isn't worth anything south of the border so to move the team to the States would be financial suicide."

Apparently Glass is considering offers from Winnipeg, Vancouver, Victoria and Medicine Hat, Alberta. "Look for us to move as soon as possible, hopefully within the week."
