PVBL: Hartford Whalers
The Countdown Continues

November 6, 1999

The Hartford Whalers and Anchorage Abominations have chosen Sterling Hitchcock and Lance Johnson, respectively. 6 teams have not yet chosen and a wealth of talent remains. For instance, the clock continues to tick on the future of Binghamton's Troy Percival, New Diggen's Alan Watson and most notably, Deadwood's Roberto Alomar and Phoenix's Andres Galarraga. Although Deadwood Owner Philip Raisor remains optimistic that the injured second baseman will remain with the club it is highly unlikely. For teams trying to build and knowing that Alomar *will* return soon enough, it would be ludicrous to think that he will not be selected with one of the 6 remaining picks whether they intend on keeping him or not such a commodity would be difficult to pass up for many.

The following teams are left to pick...Richmond, Tampa Bay, Kamloops, Medina, Battle Axe and Duluth. The following teams have not lost an FA yet...Binghamton, Galena, New Diggens, Vero Beach, Punxatawney and Phoenix. Washington and Motor City are safe from further torture.

Look for primarily pitching to disappear from the above victims' rosters and for Tampa Bay to participate despite opting out last season.

Look for Medina to go after some pitching, especially Troy Percival or Alan Watson if still available. Look for Tampa Bay, possibly, to be the club to "risk" it on Roberto Alomar. Look for Richmond or Battle Axe to snag The Big Cat.

How exciting the offseason is. Cannot wait until trading begins...not that WE plan on doing much but watching will be interesting.
