Batting order still a mystery with possible trade pending
Hartford, CT (AP)- Although Manager Kevin Kennedy claims, "It is likely to
change a bit throughout the season, especially the #4 and #5 spots," the
Hartford Whalers named their Opening Day pitching rotation.
1.) Ken Hill 75-92-69
2.) Ramon Martinez 85-83-67
3.) Tom Gordon 58-90-61
4.) *Hideki Irabu 80-79-79
5.) Kevin Millwood 86-67-64
Also likely to see a few starts this year; Masato Yoshi, Tony Saunders, Aaron
Sele, and Brian Rose.
"We certainly have a better Opening Day rotation than last season and quite a
bit more depth in the pen," remarked Owner Jeremy Chrabascz.
Speaking of the pen...it has yet to be determined who will assume what roles in
the bullpen, however, it is believed that Saunders and Sele will take on long
relief roles and Will Cunnane will resume his role as closer. No word on who
will be middle relief or setup just yet.
Tradewinds
Word is that Hartford is shopping a couple of its pitching prospects such as
Faatz and Tsamis (and Hunter) in attempts to land one more solid bat to ride
either the bench or DH. They are looking for, reportedly, a utility man or at
least someone who can play 3B.
