PVBL: Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton Oil Kings Sold!

November 3, 1999

Edmonton(AP)- The rumours started to spread near the end of the season that Local Owner Peter Pocklington would be selling the Oil Kings. Panic set in as Media and fans thought the unthinkable would happen. The Team would be sold and moved to a US market. "No way was I going to sell this Club to have it moved down to the US.Edmonton has proved to be a great Baseball town. The local ownership(all 35 of them)have banded together and come up with the 85$ Million(US)and have announced the Team will stay in Edmonton. The only change will be the Team name, which will be the Edmonton Sled Dogs, instead of the Oil Kings. The 35 Local businessman wish to remain anonymous at this time. I'd like to thank the fans of Edmonton and the players that have dressed in an Oil King uniform for giving me2 very enjoyable seasons. I wish the Sled Dogs all the best of luck in the upcoming season." With that Mr. Pocklington has now severed all ties with Sports Teams in Edmonton, after having sold the NHL Oilers and the PCL Trappers. Manager Alan Trammell was excited about the upcoming season. "We had some key injuries, especially to our starting staff, that took it's toll on us, but we bounced back in the 2nd half of last season. I like this Team. Hopefully GM Sculac won't make too many changes." Will changes be made? Offensively the Sled Dogs are solid, 5 players hit 30 Hr's or more with Greg Vaughn hitting 28(Vaughn missed 20 games)

c-Todd HUndley..280 BA, 31 HR 83 rbi's
1b-Tony Clark...300 ba, 33 Hr's, 109 Rbi's
ss-Alex Rodriguez....377 BA, 35 Hr's, 111 Rbi's
cf-Jose Cruz Jr. 283 BA, 36 Hr's, 89 Rbi's
3b-Robin Ventura...268 Ba, 35 Hr's, 90 Rbi's
rf-Vladdie Guerrero...252,16 hr's, and 55 rbi's. Vladdies just waiting to bust out. No doubt the Sled Dogs had one of the most powerful Teams in PVBL. Starting pitching is where GM Sculac will have to improve.
Chuck Finley
Pete Schourek
Jose Rosado
John Frascatore
Kevin Foster or Kenny Rogers.
Those would be the starting 5. The relief pitching is excellent.
Francisco Cordova, Jay Powell,Jeff Shaw, Mark Wohlers, Mike Fetters were solid all season long.
