Edmonton(AP)- The Edmonton Oil Kings pulled off the biggest deal in Team
History last night. GM Sculac dealt ss Nomar Garciaparra and P Jason Dickson
to the Duluth Bjork. In return the Oil Kings will get ss Alex Rodriguez. "No
doubt about it, Alex is the best hitting ss in the game today.' stated
Manager Alan Trammell. "We'll miss Nomar, he's a real Team guy, but Alex
will give us a lot more power in the lineup." Gone also is Jason Dickson, a
pitcher with lots of talent. "Jason will be a #1 starter one day,
unfortunately in order to get A-Rod we had to give up Jason." Fans in
Edmonton were overly enthusiastic when news spread of the deal. Tickets
continued to sell well and the Oil Kings have been playing to capacity all
season long. "It's good to see a small market team like Edmonton succeed.
Hopefully this year we can show the fans some Playoff Baseball.." And
Manager Trammell was all smiles as he made that comment. Has this deal
improved the Oil Kings? From an offensive standpoint, yes. But, will Tim
Wakefield be able to step in as the #5 starter? If not, recently demoted
Kevin Foster will have to take the role. After winning 15 games last season,
Foster had a brutal start and was demoted to the Bullpen. "Yeah, I'd rather
be in the rotation, but, I guess I'll have to just work hard and wait for my
chance again. I know I can pitch the same way I did last year."
