Duluth, MN. - "I guess this is what I'm getting paid for", GM Andy Lund was
quoted when asked about what decision is to be made for the franchise.
"We're definately within striking distance at second place, but it's a
distant second, and we are below .500, not to mention I have no fielders."
Which, believe it or not, is true. The Bjork have drasticly trimmed down
their roster, trading players such as Schilling, Gonzalez, Tucker, Gibson,
Brosius, Kent and many more for draft picks and pitching prospects. Now
weak in hitting, Duluth has a bright future in their rotation. Young
hurlers such as Lee Sosa and Jeff Hallony are great now, and going to get
better, as will Dickson, Loaiza and Gott. This along with Duluth's
history of a solid pen, gives the Bjork a very competitive club in a few
seasons, but what about offense? "Well, we're depending on the Coleman
brothers (Mike and Hugh), Travis Lee, Newfield and Caruso to develop fast.
After all, we're a young club", explained rookie catcher Brian Spiegel,
"I think all that we really need is a legit leadoff man, oh and a center
fielder and a shortstop... I guess a cleanup guys wouldn't hurt either."
Luckily Duluth has 4 first round amateur picks in the top dozen to play
around with. "If we have a strong draft like it sounds like it's going to
be, we should be set for tomorrow", claimed Jim Cunningham, one of the
last original Bjork. When asked if rumors of his pursuit of Ivan
Rodriguez and Mike Kincade were true GM Lund denied comment.
