AllKnighter Make Huge Deal, Stock Up Pen

August 17, 1999

(AP) Ann Arbor - Yesterday the Ann Arbor AllKnighters finalized another blockbuster deal. The AllKnighters send a trio of young arms to Battle Axe for ace reliever Gary DellaVentura and Paul Quantrill. This deal come on the heals of the acqusition of Jay Buhner. Battle Axe received great young arms in the form of Mike Baldwin, Dario Veras and George Eave."

"This is one of thoose rare breed of trades, the kind which really helps out both teams, " exclamied GM Michael Kennedy, "We receive an awesome arm in our pen in the form of DellaVentura. We also have the depth to use a guy with Quantrill's talent in the pen. Teaming these guys with Dwight Gooden, Ira Colon, Al Thornton and Bill Brandt really gives one of the better pen's in the league. This also gives us one of the most well rounded teams in the league."

"This move also helps Battle Axe in their rebuilding process. They get a guy in Mike (Baldwin) who will be a great compliment to their ace, Urbina. Veras, the Crazies/AllKnighters all-time saves leader, gives them a good realiever for years to come and George (Eave) should end up being a very solid pitcher for them. He really has a great assortment of pitchers. All of these guys are under 24, " concluded Kennedy.

Coach Buddy Bell was exstatic about the pickups, "Wow, Gooden and DellaVentura can take care of our late inning situations with Ira and Al pitching in the middle. This really has become an awesome pen. We have one of the top 3 or 4 rotations in the PVBL, you mix a very strong and diverse offense with a solid bench and top it with an excellent bullpen and you're looking at one of the teams to beat. We are hoping this gives us an edge in the wildcard race."

With all the moves the AllKnighters have made their team has become much better without moving any of their young core of players-call it creative marketing.
