PVBL: Anchorage Abominations
Abominations Clean House, Set For Stretch

July 29, 1999

Anchorage AK (AP) - In what has been (no pun intended) an abominable season for the team from the Great Northwest, Anchorage decided to take some steps to secure its outfield, both defensively and offensively. The Abominations dealt veteran outfielder Greg Vaughn to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for lefthanded outfielder Cliff Floyd and the Oil Kings' 1st round free agent draft pick. "We have been shopping Vaughny around for sometime. We have received some interesting offers, but none that really fit what we were looking to obtain. Edmonton was interested in making a deal and the price seemed right, so we moved on it. Greg was a great contributor here and he will be missed. Cliff brings youth, defense, a bit more speed, and a good bat to our lineup. He should be able to contribute on a daily basis for us." said Anchorage GM "the Man".

Rumors were swirling for the past few weeks that Vaughn wanted out of the chilliest town in the league. Unfortunately, he isn't moving to a much warmer climate. "Its not Florida, but this is a business and I understand. I hope I can help the Oil Kings and contribute." said Vaughn. "I have no hard feelings toward Anchorage, the city, or their fans. They treated me well and I'll look forward to coming back here to play them sometime."

Cliff Floyd, who has been a part-time player for the Oil Kings was excited to learn that he will most likely fill the starting role for the Abominations in left field. "I'm excited to get the opportunity to play on a more regular basis. This is a great chance to show the league what Cliff Floyd is all about." said Floyd.

Notes:

- The recent trade of Greg Vaughn seems to show signs of Anchorage possibly rebuilding. Could Bichette be next, despite the fact that he is newly acquired? "Well, if we got the right offer, we might be willing to make a deal. Our ears are always open." said "the Man". Stay tuned.
