Anchorage Refutes Rumors of Renting Players to Mets June 18, 1999
Anchorage AK (AP) - Abominations owner Nick Tulach has released a statement
condemning the Binghampton Mets franchise for attempting to "rent" players
for the remainder of the season. "This practice, while commonplace in Major
League Baseball, should NOT be condoned by teams in the PVBL. It dillutes
the level of competition in the league and, in essence, makes the regular
season pointless." Tulach said. "If teams are willing to give up on their
season and hand over the division titles, why even play the schedule?"
Binghampton had approached Anchorage with the ludicrious offer and has been
rumored to be offering this up to all of the "bad" teams in the PVBL. Though
this does benefit both teams involved, it is unethical and unfair to the
rest of the teams that are trying to compeat.
Anchorage has tried its best to maintain loyalty among its fans and players.
"I would be very upset if Nick [Tulach] rented me to a team. I would feel
betrayed by the franchise and would not want to come back." said infielder
Jeff Cirillo. "The 'Boms have made a committment to putting the best
team they can put on the field. But they will not resort to unethical means
to do that." said owner Nick Tulach.
Anchorage urges the league to condemn this behavour as well and to carefully
watch for such trades in the future.
