Anchorage AK (AP) - Anchorage lost two games to the struggling Hartford Whalers
Tuesday and yesterday, mainly as a result of failed bullpen work. Although
Tuesday's starter Mike Bottenfield gave up four runs, three of them earned,
in four innings, reliever Dave Telgheder came in and gave the 'Boms no
chance at coming back from the deficit. "He [Telgheder] was very disappointing
Tuesday. We need pitchers who are solid out of the pen. Dave was a joke."
said manager Nick Tulach before sending Telgheder to AAA New Iberia.
Yesterday's game was no better as Scott Aldred pitched an adequete 5 2/3
innings, but rookie Al Rockenfield came in and gave up 5 runs to help Hartford
seal the victory. "Al struggled yesterday. Andres was in a zone the last two
days. We were throwing him garbage and he was still hitting it." said Tulach.
"I know I let the team down [Wednesday]. I just hope I can get another chance.
I know I can redeem myself." said Rockenfield, who has filled in for the injured
left-hander Billy Wagner.
Anchorage will have the day off today before travelling to Edmonton to start
a three game series against the Oil Kings. The Oil Kings are led by shortstop
Alex Rodriguez and catcher Todd Hundley.
Notes:
- Anchorage is still in search of a left-handed hitter, preferably a veteran
who plays either firstbase or right field. Anchorage has a number of
pitchers who can help in the bullpen as well as the 26th pick in the upcoming
amateur draft.
