Anchorage Media Blackout Ends, 'Boms Win

May 22, 1999

Deadwood (AP) - In the middle of a horrible month of May, owner Nick Tulach ended the media blackout of his team and walked away with a victory, defeating the Deadwood Outlaws 5-1 in 10 innings yesterday. The media blackout had occurred due to a member of the local Anchorage media breaking into the Abominations' clubhouse and rifling through a number of the player's personal belongings. "We decided that it was in the best interest of the team to help us get back on track and focused on salvaging this season." said owner/manager Nick Tulach. "We came out of [Friday's] day off with a good feeling, so we lifted the blackout."

Steve Tsamis made his second start of the year, going eight innings, giving up just one hit in the no-decision. Anchorage's bats burst in the tenth inning, producing five runs, including homeruns by Greg Vaughn, Alex Ochoa, and Jeff Cirillo. Backup catcher Chuck Lynn, thrust iinto the starting role due to Lieberthal's injury, singled in Mark Grudzielanek for the other run not attributed to homeruns. "Tsamis pitched his heart out today, I wish he'd earned the win, but at least we won the game." said reliever Mike Holtz who finished off the game for the 'Boms.

Notes:

- Owner Nick Tulach has stated that he is not yet found the candidate that he is looking for in a manager. When asked what the criteria was, he replied: "Well, winning is pretty important. Yeah, I'd say you'd have to be able to win."

- F.P. Santangelo, benched recently in favor of the hot Stan Javier said that he'd do anything to get his starting spot back on the team. "I would even stop selling crack to the grade-schoolers at the ballpark, if it meant getting to play everyday again."

- Police in Anchorage are still baffled at the missing mascot's feet. "We have no leads at all. People keep calling us, telling us they saw them, but then we look around and don't see a thing. We may need to get the FBI involved in order to close this case." In the meantime, the National Guard has been called in and martial law has been declared. Residents of Anchorage must go straight home from work and cannot be outdoors after dark. Luckily it is only dark for a short while during the early summer months.
