Anchorage AK (AP) - Fresh on the heels of the blockbuster no one cares to talk
about anymore, Anchorage filled in the gap left by the departure of their
all star shortstop by acquiring Tucson's backup shortstop Mark Grudzielanek
in exchange for right fielder Paul O'Neill and Anchorage's 1st round amateur
pick in the June amateur draft. "We see this as the second half of the deal
that we made yesterday. This is the final piece to our infield which will
feature Eric Karros at 1B, Miguel Cairo at 2B, Jeff Cirillo at 3B, Mark
Grudzielanek at SS, and Mike Lieberthal at C for years to come." said owner
Nick Tulach.
This deal leaves Anchorage with one pick in the 1st round of the amateur
draft, Vero Beach's pick that they acquired in the Phil Nevin deal last season.
