(AP) WASHINGTON--In what came as a surprise to the Washington Sea Dogs
today, the PVBL League Office informed GM Aaron Weiner that Chad Ogea, as
a result of the three-month layover between the regular season and the
offseason, would not be protected under the free-agent plan.
"This comes as a shock to the organization," Weiner said. "Here we
thought that Chad was going to be safe and sound under the umbrella, and
we learn that all the rules are different."
Weiner has been offered a chance by the league to change his protected
list.
"We're not certain what we're going to do now," Weiner said. "Knowing a
guy like Chad Ogea's just going to be free changes everything."
Ogea himself was also stunned.
"They told me earlier this season that they'd try to do anything possible
to keep me a Sea Dog," Ogea said. "I'm just hoping they can live up to
that."
