PVBL: Vero Beach Bums
Bums Announce 1998 Starting Lineups

April 6, 1998

Binghamton, NY (AP) - The Vero Beach Bums have announced their starting lineups for the 1998 PVBL season, which starts today here in Binghamton against the Mets. There are few surprises at this point, since the Bums look virtually the same as the team that won the DL crown last season and lost four very close games in the World Series against the Hartford Whalers -- by a combined total of 5 runs in 4 games.

Albie Lopez will pitch in the season opener today against Brad Radke in a battle of 200-strikeout pitchers. The rest of the rotation:
#2 Ismael Valdes
#3 Willie Adams
#4 *Orlando Hernandez
#5 Kevin Ritz

The bullpen consists of these players:
Kurt Hardie and John Cummings, long relief; Barney Berres and Angel Miranda, middle relief; Mark Guthrie and Kent Bottenfield, set up; and Trevor Hoffman, closer.

The Bums will start these players against the right-handed Radke:

SS Omar Vizquel
2B Rex Hudler
CF Marquis Grissom
DH Ron Gant
3B Dave Hollins
1B Jeff King
RF Brian Jordan
C Tom Pagnozzi
