PVBL: Spokane Pirates
Trade and Final Cuts

Febuary 27, 1998

In what should be the final trade for the Pirates this off season, Spokane picked up a little left handed help for their bullpen. Rick Blair, formerly of Lairamar, is the cherry on top of the pitching ice cream sundae acquired this off-season by Jeremey Stephens.

"We keep saying that we are done trading, but these deals we cant pass up are continually offered. We were looking forward to seeing Mark Lewis in our line-up. But a better deal came along, and we were able to further solidify our pitching staff. After looking at last seasons numbers, it is painfully obvious that every other team in the league was able to laugh at us because of our pitching. Sure, we hit more homers than any other team, but we gave up more by far. My motto is 'Do it my way, or watch your butt!', but I had to listen to the fans. Apparently they don't want to see this team run into the ground. They said get some pitching, we went out and got pitchers. This is about them after all. They pay my salary in the end!"

Fact is they may have acquired too much pitching. Rumor has it that they have been in contact with a few other clubs in attempts to trade away a fifth starter. From what I could gather, McDowell, Guzman, Cone, Sele and Wright are untouchable, but they have some other talent that can EASILY start for most teams. If you need that one last solid starter to complete your rotation, give Spokane a call!
