The sacramento Knights made their first major deal in over a year as
they trade for Jay Buhner. The knights, at 50-80, aren't exactly a World
Series contender but they made this deal thinking about next year. They sent
tow solid young players, John Wojcik and Butch huskey along with a 2nd round
pick to Medina. All three players are having off-years but this deal looks
like one that will help out both teams. "It's tough to give up two great
young outfielders like we did but", said G.M. Sean george, "but Buhner
really helps us in the direction that we are going. Over the last two years,
we have been the worst eam in the PVBL but I think we will take a dramatic
turn around next year."
When he took over as the Knights G.M., Sean George started a 2-year
plan. He traded away all of the teams stars and started to build a team from
scratch expecting to be a contender in 2 years. Well it looks like they will
be a contender next year. Buhner gives them much needed power for next year
and with young stars like Ruben Rivera (the teams MVP), Melvin Nieves, Troy
O'leary, Deivi Cruz and others, they look like they will have a formidable
line up next year. The main reason why Sacramento has a bright future is
because of their great young staff which includes: Kerry Wood (2.77 era,
132K's in 150inn), Myles Taucher (9-8, 2,43), Matt Morris (6-3, 2.50, hurt
much of the year) and Alan Benes (8-10, 3.64).
When asked about what the team wil do about its holes, .M. Sean George
had this to say, "I think we have major problems at second, third and
catcher. I think we are going to have to address these problems in the
upcoming drafts. Hopefully there will be some good players at those
positions for us to pick up."
