PVBL: Sacramento Knights
Season Outlook

Febuary 1, 1998

Although the Sacramento Knights had the worst record in the PVBL last year, the Knights will go into next season with a very good young team that very well could contend for a wild card. The Knights have made a couple of trades over the last week. Over the weekend they sent prospect Shannon Stewart and Mike Lansing to Phoenix for Rich Amaral and power hitting Prospect John Wojik. The Knights, looking to add youth to their team, sent Amaral (32) and Jeff Reed (34) to Brooklyn for Jorge Posada (23). The Knights have a very young and talented team that in a few seasons will be one of the best in the game. Only one starting hitter is above the age of 26. Right now the line up has: 2B Jose Vizciano (26) 61CH, 22PH, 68SP; 3B Butch Huskey (23) 61, 61, 31; 1b Joe Vitiello (24) 44, 77, 23; CF Ruben Rivera (21) 49, 67, 62; RF Troy O'leary (25) 51, 77, 45; SS Orlando Miller (25) 51, 54, 50; C Jorge Posada (23) 42, 49, 50; DH Pete Incavigilla (30) 43, 76, 38; LF John Wojik (23) 40, 70.

The rotation is filled with very good young pitchers as well. They will draft Kerry Wood (20) and Wood could be the best pitcher in the game two years down the road. Miles Taucher (23) is coming off a great season for Motor City and Sacramento was able to pick him up in the draft. The teams amateur pick, Frank Callahan (22) is coming off of a strong rookie year. Alan Benes (22) also pitched very well for Sacramento in the second half and looks like he will be much better this year. Doug Drabek (34) is the veteran on the staff as the only pitcher above the age of 23.

The Knights are still looking to trade veterans like Incavigilla, Mike Blowers, Greg Gagne, Doug Drabek, Alex Arias and Billy Taylor, all who can still play and help a team win, for young players of first round draft picks.
