Punxtawney (AP)--"We've had enough." That was what Dan Shapiro,
Punxtawney's owner, had to say about his official team name. "Even though
we spell it wrong as well, its certainly not 'Ponxatawney.'"
So in an effort to speed up the process of getting the name officially
changed, the Groundhogs have filed a suit against the PVBL, complaining of
false representation, and demanding the name be changed, officially, to
"Punxatawney."
Shapiro also noted that the Hogs will immediately withdraw the lawsuit if
Commish Peck gives notice that the name has been officially corrected. "I
don't mean this to harm the front office of the PVBL, but I'm really tired
of having our team incorrectly represented," Shapiro said. "We may play in
Punxsutawney, and call ourselves Punxatawney, but we aren't Ponxatawney."
