Phoenix makes trade, shakes up lineup May 26, 1998
Phoenix (AP) - Even though they're in first place with a 29-13 record,
Phoenix GM Patrick Bridges isn't quite happy. His team is batting an
anemic .238. The team is being propped up only by excellent
pitching.
In an effort to shake things up, Phoenix today sent 2B Mike Lansing
and C Alberto Castillo to Montreal for CF Ray Lankford and LHP Omar
Daal. In addition, Bridges has benched Todd Zeile, instead favoring
young prospect Damon Buford, as well as shuffling around the bottom
half of the lineup. Several callups from AAA were also made to balance
the team's clubhouse. Glenallen Clements and Mark Loretta are new
presences in the clubhouse, even though they only expect moderate
playing time this season.
The Gila Monsters are still said to be looking for a trade for a
power-hitting 1B, a great catcher. Uber-prospect Ryan George and RHP
Chan Ho Park are said to be in the mix in these trade talks. However,
Bridges appeaers to be reluctant to give up either player except for
players that would help lock up a championship for this season.
