Martinez Expected to Leave Outlaws October 29, 1998
(Deadwood, SD) Deadwood Outlaws General Manager Philip Raisor is a man on
a mission, a mission who's only goal is to bring a World Series to the fans
of Deadwood. "The fans here have been great, and they deserve to winner,"
said Raisor in a recent interview from his office at Hitchcock Stadium.
According to Raisor, the Outlaw's number one off season priority is to land
a front line catcher. "[Player/Manager] Don Slaught did a fine job behind
the plate after we traded [Javier] Lopez, but he's got alot on his plate.
I'd like for him to be able to concentrate on managing the team, and not
having to worry about putting the gear on everyday."
Raisor is also nervous about the pending free agent plan draft. "We're
going to lose someone important to the team, no question about it, but I
guess that's the price you have to pay to be one of the best teams in the
league." It's expected that 1B Tino Martinez will probably be the one to
leave via the draft, but the team will probably make every effort to trade
to get whomever leaves back. "Tino has been a fantastic player for us in
the past, and hopefully in the future."
