Pending league approval, the Deadwood Outlaws have aquired OF Bernie
Williams and LHP Denny Neagle from the Thunder Bay Storm for C Javier
Lopez, OF Al Martin, minor league INF Tim Baldwin, minor league LHP Mark
Clark, plus Deadwood's 1999 first round ameateur draft pick.
Deadwood GM Phil Raisor had this to say about the trade, "We hated to lose
Javy and Al, but Williams is a superstar in the makings, and Neagle, while
having an off year, will help out rotation tremendously."
Lopez has been the discussion of trade talks for over a year now, so his
trade isn't much of a surprise, but Martin was one of manager Don Slaught's
favorites.
Slaught will use the following lineup for the time being:
Roberto Alomar 2b
Shawon Dunston SS
Eric Davis LF
Ken Caminiti 3b
Bernie Williams CF
Rafael Palmerio DH
Tino Martinez 1B
Moises Alou RF
Don Slaught/Brent Mayne C
If Dunston continues to struggle, Slaught will probably move Williams into
the two hole, and drop Dunston to 9th.
The rotation now is made up of
RHP Roger Clemens
RHP Scott Erickson
LHP Denny Neagle
RHP Flash Gordon
LHP Jeff Fassero
With the power in the lineup, the starters should get plenty of run
production.
Rumor has it that Raisor may not be done dealing, though the Outlaws are
running out of prospects...
