PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Martinez Sent to Dodge City

May 6, 1998

-RHP Ramon Martinez has been sent to AAA Dodge City to work out his problems. RHP Bill Risley, who pitched well in September last season, has been called up to take Martinez spot in the rotation.

-CF Moises Alou and INF Julio Franco are both nursing minor injuries, and will be kept out of the line-up for a few days.

-Catchers Javy Lopez and Terry Steinbach will split time behind the plate for now. Lopez has caught every inning of every game so far this season, and manager Don Slaught doesn't want him to burn out. Both will remain in the line-up, with whoever isn't catching will DH.

-Manager Don Slaught has a reason why the Outlaw hitters have started so poorly: The Weather. Slaught believes that with the temp. being so cold in Deadwood in April and early May, it's hard for hitters to hit. When asked why opposing teams don't seem to have the same problem, Slaught just mumbled something and left the room...
