Pending league approval, the Deadwood Outlaws have traded superstar LHP
Randy Johnson to division rival Montreal for superstar 2B Roberto Alomar.
This trade comes as a surprise, as it was thought that Outlaw GM wanted
pitching to replace Johnson in the rotation. In a short statement, Raisor
told reporters,"We're sorry to see RJ go, but we felt that we've got enough
pitchers to contend, and Robby Alomar is one of the top players in the
entire game. As good as Johnson is, he can only effect one game out of
five, while Robby can have a say in every game."
Deadwood's player/manager Don Slaught has already produced the new line up:
Al Martin lf
Robby Alomar 2b
Ken Caminiti 3b
Gary Sheffield rf
Tino Martinez 1b
Javier Lopez c
Moises Alou cf
John Valentin ss
David Segui dh
One through nine, this is the best line-up in baseball and, hopefully,
should produce enough runs to offset the loss of Johnson.
As for the rotation, RHP Bartolo Colon will take over Johnson's spot and
rookie LHP Mark W. Clark has been called up to take a place in the bullpen.
To make room for Clark, SS Shawon Dunston has been designated for
assingment. RHP Doug Bochtler is expected to take over Colon's closing
job, for the time being.
