Outlaws Win First Game

April 8, 1998

-Deadwood won their first game of the season 5-3 in 10 innings over divison rivals the Montreal Royals. 3B Ken Caminiti homered in the top of the 10th to secure the win. Paul Assenmacher notched the win, in relief of Randy Johnson, while Bart Colon got his first career save.

-Just before game time, Deadwood GM announced that 37 year old OF Rob Deer signed a minor league contract with AAA Dodge City. Deer will report to Tombstone for extended spring training. It is expected that Deer will eventually supply some needed power off of Deadwood's bench.

-Trade talks:
Deadwood was a late entry in the Bobby Witt sweepstakes, offering a couple minor league pitchers, but is not expected to land the pitcher.
