PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Rosters Unfrozen, Deadwood Makes 3 Trades

January 3, 1998

With the unfreezing of the rosters, the Deadwood Outlaws quickly made the following trades.

-RHP Jason Schmidt was activated from the disabled list, and sent to Tucson as the player to be named later from an earlier deal.

-RHP Omar Daal was sent to Montreal for SS Shawon Dunston. Dunston is expected to be the primary back-up to SS John Valentin and 2b Mariano Duncan, if he doesn't win either position during Spring Training.

-2b Carlos Garcia was traded to Washington for 1b David Segui. Segui has the inside track to being the everyday DH. Segui will also back-up Tino Martinez at first, and he can also play the outfield, giving Al Martin, Moises Alou, and Gary Sheffield a rest.

In other moves...
-SS John Valentin was activated from the DL.
-The following players were released: 2b Jason Bates, ss Benji Gil, LHP Bruce Ruffin, 1b Herbert Perry, rhp Joe Borowski, and lhp Mark Portugal.

WANT LIST
-Deadwood NEEDS a back-up outfielder (with a contact rating of around 55 or more).
-Deadwood is also interested in another starting pitcher (who isn't?)
-Also, we'd like to improve our draft choice (currently #19) Other then that, we're ready for the new season..
