Simas & Cormier Pitch Win for Royals September 2, 1998
MONTREAL (CP)--Simas couldn't be happier. Only yesterday Bill Simas was sent along with teammate Rheal Cormier north to join the Montreal Royals in a series against the Hartford Whalers. Simas, who hadn't pitched more than 2 innings in 1998, was told he would fill an important role as middle reliever behind the league's hold leader, Joe Hetrick.
Cormier pitched 6 solid innings, but he left the game the losing pitcher as the Royals were behind 3-1. Bill Simas held the Whalers to 1 hit over 3 innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Danny Tartabull produced the winning blow, a 3-run home run to give Bill Simas his first win of the season.
