Laurel, Maryland -- In the mist of a four game slide, the Laurel Lynx announced two trades
completed over the weekend. CF Rich Becker goes to Tucson for a package of
19 year old SS Wilson Delgado and 19 year old RHP Tom Foutz. The move like
others completed by Laurel are made with the expectation that the players
acquired will develop in a few seasons, when the team hopes to contend.
Delgado, the highest rated AAA shortstop will likely report directly to the
majors. Manager Floyd Hoerst said "we have an obvious need at short and
hopefully Delgado can solidify the position for many years to come." He
continued "We hope that Foutz can mature into a 3rd or 4th starter a few
years down the road."
In a trade completed yesterday the Lynx sent veteran OF Danny Tartabull to
Montreal for promising reliever Matthew Jacobs. Jacobs will likely also
report directly to Laurel to add another arm to the inconsistent bullpen.
Hoerst stated "Danny was not really in our plans especially at AAA, so we
were happy to get a young guy with an arm like Jacobs in the deal."
The trades of course are subject to approval by whatever ruling body is put
into place by the league.
