A long, agonized groan was heard coming from the general vicinity of the
J.D. Byrider car dealership in Fort Collins, Colorado, where Larimer
Knights owner John Dybala is employed. It seems that in the middle of
processing loan paperwork and making plans for an upcoming engagement
party and wedding, he forgot he owns a baseball team.
A Laporte Herald-Tribune reporter happened to be on the lot looking at a
car and took the opportunity to interview the owner of the beleagured
team.
Dybala only consented to a brief interview due to time constraints, but
had this to say: "I need pitchers. I need a utilityman, too. I was a
little late getting to Jere Chrabascz on Tony Phillips, which sucks, but
that's life. Basically, I'm not worried about my team's ability to hit. I
mean, I've got Edmonds, Giles, Merced, Dykstra, and an otherwise
productive lineup. It's the pitchers who keep losing the games for us, and
also I keep losing guys to injuries and I can't replace them, so they have
to play hurt, which just makes matters worse. So I'm looking to make a
deal in that vein."
The interview came to an abrupt end when a call came from Byrider's sister
office in Greeley, reporting that a car stolen off that lot a couple of
evenings ago was involved in a rampage which left two cars totaled. (See
story on Page A3.)
