Whalers Protest Lop-sided Deal With World Champions December 13, 1998
Hartford, CT (AP)- The Hartford Whalers issued the following statement this
morning:
The Hartford Whalers organization would like to officially protest yesterday's
trade between Galena and Sacramento. We feel that the trade was not one of
equal value and that by giving the defending World Champions the #3 overall
pick in both the Free Agent and Amateur drafts that the league's parity has
been threatened. The business world does not condone monopolies and neither
will many PVBL owners. The Whalers are on record as the second team to protest
this deal, making it only 2 protests away from review by the trade committee.
We urge other owners, for the sake of the league, and for the sport of
baseball, to stand up equity and fairness in PVBL.
