Whalers GM cleared of everything, mystery suspect hauled in July 12, 1998
Hartford (AP)- Whalers GM Jeremy Chrabascz stood side-by-side with law
enforcement officials and lawyers at a press conference this afternoon and
stated:
Duluth law enforcement authorities have cleared me of all charges and have
released me. I am no longer being accused or charged with any wrong doing. My
lawyers and I will expect a public apology from Andy Lund, Alex Rodriquez and
the city of Duluth presently.
Police Commissioner Gordon made the following statement:
Mr. Jeremy Chrabascz has been cleared after an extensive investigation. We
have discovered that not only was Jeremy not responsible for anything but that
he was in Connecticut at the time of the alleged incidents and flew in just
this morning upon our request. We have instead found the real suspect of these
crimes who has been brought in, questioned and charged with various counts of
misconduct. We are not at liberty to release any information on the subject at
this time.
The Hartford Courant reported the following late this afternoon to the AP:
The apparent suspect, according to sources close to the family, is one of
Jeremy Chrabascz's brothers. It is unkown which brother has been charged or
what his motives were. Furthermore, neither the Chrabascz family nor
authorities were willing to comment.
We'll keep you up-to-date as the story unfolds. In the meantime, Chrabascz has
filed a $1 million civil suit against Duluth Owner Andy Lund for public slander
and libel, stemming from false allegations that Chrabascz had any involvement
with Attorney General Janet Reno. Lund both made public comments and had
similar accusations published in The National Enquirer, which he also owns.
All Chrabascz had to say of the suit was, "I am confident that justice will
prevail and this slanderous individual will receive his due. He doesn't
deserve to be in the league either but that is an issue I should take up with
Mr. Peck. If they want to know about Ms. Reno they should contact Mr (Dan)
Shapiro anyway, shouldn't they?"
