PVBL: Hartford Whalers
Hits just keep on coming for Hartford (Part 2)

June 27, 1998

As if already having 3 guys on the DL and your two middle relievers go out (yesterday) wasn't bad enough, Hartford Whalers Manager Jeremy Chrabascz watched in horror today as TWO more of his active relievers went down. Long relievers Aaron Sele and Tim Wakefield both went down. Sele is OUT at least a week while Wakefield is listed as day-to-day.

Here's the total casualties list for the Whalers RIGHT NOW:

Already on the DL...
-SS Kurt Abbott (due back any day)
-RHP Kevin Brown, starter (due back any day)
-RHP Cal Eldred, starter (due back in about a week)

Also OUT...
-LHP Jack Broskie, reliever OUT 1-2 wks
-RHP Aaron Sele, reliever OUT 7-10 days
-RHP John Burke, reliever OUT 1 wk

Day-to-day...
-RHP Tim Wakefield, reliever (10%)
-LHP Mike Mimbs, starter (8%)

On the matter of the injuries, Chrabascz simply shrugged and admitted, "I don't even know what to do anymore. If we put all these guys on the DL our minors can't function or we'll have to release some young fellas. Yet our bullpen is decimated and we need to do something. Looks like some call-up or trades are in order. If anyone has any advice it sure would be welcome. I'm not sure our luck could get any worse but, then again, that's what I said yesterday when Jack and John went down."

4 of Hartford's active relievers are down and 3 of their starters...not to mention their starting SS.
