Medina sends Andruw Jones to Galena April 22, 1998
(Galena,IL) - Galena will be welcoming super phenom Andruw Jones very soon!
Galena and the Medina Mustangs have just came to an agreement that would
send
the mega
prospect right fielder to Galena in exchange for top second base prospect
Roberto Mejia, top minor league relief pitcher Darren Dreifort, and low
minor league pitching prospect Jim Koppe.
"We just got Koppe and Dreifort in the off-season in various
trades. We really liked what we saw in both of them, but we knew we would
have to give up quality to get quality," noted Galena Hamsters owner
Matthew Peck. Indeed, Dreifort is expected to be one of the best
relieverse in the game, possibly a star closer. The 22 year old youngster
has great control and often hits 100 mph on the radar gun. Roberto Mejia,
the second base prospect, has yet to hit for high average in the minors,
but has shown incredible power. Last year between Galena and Las Vegas
(the Hamsters AAA affiliate) Mejia belted 23 homers, not bad for a middle
infielder.
Peck was not worried about giving up the quality youngsters, "We
got a future superstar in Andruw Jones. He could very well be the best
player in the PVBL in 5 years, and the best thing is, he is only 17 years
old!" Jones is expected to play out the 1998 season in Las Vegas, but
don't be surprised if he is called up before that, especially if the
Hamsters experience injuries.
