(AP) Edmonton-The Edmonton Oil Kings have dealt youngsters Jacob Cruz and
Mack Malarkey to the Medina Mustangs for Pitcher "Pistol" Pete Schourek.
"Pete will help out our pitching staff right away. With Jason Dickson
relegated to the Bullpen, we needed another starter and we're more than
happy to have Schourek join the Oil Kings. cf Jacob Cruz we hated to
trade as he is an outstanding prospect, but with Jose Cruz Jr., Vladdie
Guerrero, Cliff Floyd, Tim Salmon...he wasn't going to fit into the
lineup anytime soon. And ss Mack Malarkey is another fine young
prospect, but he would never get a chance to play here ahead of Nomar
Garciaparra. I'm really excited getting Schourek. Hopefully he'll be
enough to hold off those Deadwood Outlaws!"
