PVBL: Edmonton Oilers
Troubles Continue for Edmonton

August 23, 1998

(AP) Edmonton-The Edmonton Oil Kings woes continue here in the second half of the PVBL season. After a wonderful start, going 48-33, the Oil Kings have gone 15-27 since. The reasons? Number one has been the pitching. The first half of the year, Edmontons pitching was unstoppable. Starters Rosado, Rogers, Foster, Dickson were playing way above their heads, and the relievers were all with ERA's under 2.5. The recent addition of Ace Chuck Finley has helped, but it hasn't put the Oil Kings over the top, which is where GM Sculac wanted his team about now. Not nursing a 1 game lead over the charging Deadwood Outlaws. "We've had a lousy second half, that's for sure. We need Timmy Salmon hitting. And now we've lost Rosie(Jose Rosado)for 2-4 weeks?? Just what we didn't need." Rumours are still swirling of a possible deal involving either Tim Salmon, Vladdie Guerrero, or even Rookie of the Year Candidate Jose Cruz Jr." Salmon has been shopped all year. As for Vladdie and Cruz, I've been asked about those two guys all year. Will I make a deal? Maybe. Or maybe I'll just wait it out and see how the season progresses." One thing is for sure. The Oil Kings need pitching help.
