PVBL: Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton in First

June 1, 1998

Edmonton(AP)- For the first time in the existence of the Pepper Baseball League, the Edmonton Oil Kings find themselves in an unfamiliar position-first place! The Oil Kings are just a half game ahead of the Hartford Whalers, who have floundered in their past 10 games. "This is incredible," stated GM Brian Sculac, "we knew in the second half of last season that we were going to be a better ball club this season, and so far, Manager Gary Jones has done a remarkable job with this young bunch, but, hey, theres a long way to go. Hartford, Deadwood and Montreal are all good ball clubs. It's gonna be a dogfight to the end." Rumours have been swirling that GM Sculac is on the lookout for another top notch starting pitcher, and Tim Salmon and Vladdie Guerrero have been discussed. "Well, I would love to keep both guys, but only one of them can play in rf. Jose Cruz Jr. is our LF and Mickey Kelly is solid in Centre." Would he deal Guerrero or Salmon? "Heck, I'd deal anyone if the price was right!"
