Frogs make biggest trade of season December 22, 1998
This weekend was a big one for the New Diggens Budweiser Frogs. Moments
after sending out their trade request our mailbox was full trade rumors.
New GM Leon Durham made some big moves by giving up their #9 pick in the
Free-agent draft to Deadwood for LF Al Martin. Leon had this to say,
"Martin is just the man we needed to play RF for use next year. He's fast,
can hit, and plays great defense."
The Durham wasn't don yet! Soon the Neighboring rivals the Galena Hamsters
and the Frogs made the biggest trade of the season. Galena sent CF Doug
Glanville, 3B Jeff Cirillo, SP Jamie Navaro, RF Pedro Borbon, and C Scott
Service to the Frogs for 3B Chipper Jones, 1B Ben Grieve, RP Mike Jackson,
and 1st rnd pick in the amature draft. Durham had this to say, "We're out
to prove that we want to trade. It was a tough decision, but something had
to be done to make this team World Series Contenders. We picked up a lot of
great tallent, speed, defence, hitting, and a quality pitcher. To us it was
like giving up a super-star 3B and a quality back up 1B for an all star
line-up."
The Frogs are still looking for a quality Short Stop, and Catcher.
