PVBL: Springfield Atoms
Atoms in First

April 22, 1998

Springfield(AP)- Hi this is Troy Mclure, and I am back on furlough. If you remember a week ago our Atoms were mired in third place. Today the atoms took two from Punxatawney at George Burns Memorial Stadium, and moved into sole posession of first place.

Mark Gardner moved to 3-0 today, as the atoms were out hit yet again, but pitching proved to be the difference as they topped the ferrets.. or vermin or whatever Punxatawny's name is 4-3. In the second game rookie pitcher Livan Hernandez, Dan Consedine, and Randy Myers pitched a 1-0 shutout over those same Vermin! So the Atoms hold a half game lead over those ferrets!

At the press conference, skipper Ned Flanders was very reluctant to claim the Riker's Division Title now, but did say they are expecting a big battle from Tampa Bay! Burns on the other hand had nothing flattering to say about the play of his team, but focused only on the poor hitting, which has plagued the Atoms for early part of the season.

Atoms still have a couple more games with Punxatawney tomorrow, which will also be the unveiling of the Atoms new mascot-The singing Homer! So come early if you want good seats, because its almost a sell out.
