Atoms Trade Matt Williams

April 6, 1998

Springfield(AP)- Hi I am Troy Mclure, and Today Montgomery Burns did the unthinkable-traded Matt Williams. The Atoms picked up pitching prospects Livian Hernandez and Dan Consedine. Major sources inside the Atoms are saying Burns pulled the trigger on this trade to keep new skipper, Ned Flanders, happy and out of the front office.

Offensively the Atoms will miss Williams 30 plus homers and 100 plus RBI's, but the recent acquisition of Angel Sherid will help the Atoms for the time being. Where the trade will help the Atoms is in the pitching staff. Both pitchers are expected to see plenty of innings for the Atoms this season.

Hernandez will become the new fifth starter and Consedine will become a setup man for Meyers. Many in the organization think Mr. Burns and Flanders are phoning in the season with this trade. But Burns has silenced those critics, and is hiring for those positions inside the Atoms Organization.

Many of the positions will be filled by current employee's from the power plant. Decisions will be made later this week.

Se ya at the ball park!
