Punxatawney Mixes Things Up, Tries to Improve Bullpen

Punxatawney opened the day by calling up Mark Portugal, Dustin Hermanson, and Jim Burright while sending down Jack Broskie, Henry Matuzak, and Tim Scott.

This was followed soon after with a trade. Aaron Sele and Pat Borders went to Hartford in exchange for Pat Mahomes, Butch Henry, and Curtis Goodwin. This left Punxtawney with one too many players so pitcher Henry Matuzak was waived. Then to ensure that they would have a solid backup catcher, Punxatawney waived Joe Orsulak and reclaimed Chet Peak, who they had released earlier in the week. Jim Burright was summarily sent back down to AAA following this move as it added a pitcher to the bullpen and Burright was sent back even before he got to Punxatawney.

They also traded Arthur Rhodes to Edmonton for Jon Lieber.

Now the rotation and bullpen are as thus: Rotation: Roger Clemens, Pete Schourek, Rocky Coppinger, Jon Lieber, Dustin Hermanson

Long relief: Terry Adams

Middle relief: Pat Mahomes, Mark Portugal

Setup: Scott Ruffcorn, Butch Henry

Closers: Curt Leskanic, Randy Myers

That's all for today.
