Chicago Moves to Phoenix, Start Trading Right Away

The newly-formed Phoenix Gila Monsters, in an effort to shore up their pitching staff and defense, have executed trades with the Galena Hamsters and Cockeysville Crazies. The Monsters sent first baseman Scott Stahoviak to the Crazies along with Quentin McCracken for starting pitcher Pedro Astacio and outfielder Rich Amaral. In addition, Phoenix traded Heathcliff Slocomb and Pedro Borbon to the Galena Hamsters for Paul Molitor to replace the just-traded Stahoviak at first base.

All three teams should benefit from this trade. The Crazies gain a replacement for Will Clark, who is expected out for the season, the Hamsters solidify their relief staff, while the Gila Monsters shore up their weak four-man rotation with a fifth starter.

New Phoenix manager/GM Patrick Bridges said of the trade, "We really needed a legitimate fifth starter. Only a computer (or someone like Ray Knight or Bob Boone) would seriously consider a full-time four-man rotation in this day and age. We regret trading such young talent, but we had to to keep this team winning. The experience of players such as Molitor and Amaral can only help our team as we contend for the penant."

The Hamsters and Crazies were unavailable for immediate comment.
