Greetings & Happy New Year!

It may be 1998, but in baseball we are still in 1997... but no regrets, because the '97 season sure is a good one! For most teams there are only about 30 games left to play. That's approximately two weeks in real time. Then, the playoffs. Who will it be? For some teams, namely the Punxatawney Groundhogs and the Galena Hamsters, a playoff spot is almost a given. But there is still some competition in most other divisions...

[3] THE RACE FOR FIRST IN THE LEAGUE

The Punxatawney Groundhogs were almost uncontentested team in the peppers just a month ago, but all of a sudden the Galena Hamsters pulled ahead after going on a 10 game win streak. The Hamsters are currently 2 games in front of the Groundhogs.

[4] RECORDS ON THE LINE?

Dante Bichette and Mark McGwire are leading the DL in home runs with 48, only the top competitors are both on the same team! Home run production from both Spokane players has dropped off, leaving 62 home runs almost out of reach. Bichette and McGwire are both on pace to hit 58 home runs, although their rate has dropped in the past month. Meanwhile, Ryan Klesko and Raul Mondesi have 47 and 44 home runs respectively.

In the EL, all eyes are on a different number--.400. Reggie Jefferson is currently batting .394, only 6 points away from the legendary .400.

[5] ERRORS ON TRANSACTIONS PAGE

Since the transactions page was started at the end of July, there have been some unnoticed problems with the files. Team names corresponding to players may not be correct. Although trades between teams generally worked out okay, roster moves will usually show a wrong team name to the left of the player. As of September 5th, the problem has been fixed, although transactions files from previous dates will still show the errors.
