PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Outlaws Sold

July 29, 1997

-The Deadwood Outlaws have officially been sold to a group headed up by conservative talk show host, Rush Limbaugh for an estimated $250 million. Former owner, Philip Scott Raisor, will stay on with the team as General Manager, and will continue to oversee the day-to-day operation of the team.

-The Outlaws have pulled within two games of Division leading Hartford with a 6-5 win over visiting Edmonton. Both 2B Julio Franco and SS John Valentin homered for Deadwood. LHP Randy Johnson gave up four runs over eight innings to earn his 11th win, while RHP Jeff Brantley picked up his 8th save of the year.

-After the game, Raisor announced the following transactions: RHPs Jose Mesa and Jose Rijo were activated from the disabled list. To make room for the pitchers, Brad Clontz and Bruce Ruffin were sent to AAA Dodge City. Rijo will take Mark Portugal's place in the rotation as Portugal will move to long relief. Mesa, the closer before his injury, will move into a set-up role for new closer Jeff Brantley.
