-C/DH JAVIER LOPEZ missed his plane and was not availabe for Tuesday's double header against Hartford. Hopefully, Lopez will be ready to go for the next series.
-When Lopez is activated from the DL, GARY SHEFFIELD will switch from DH to his original major league position of third-base. "I'm really excited to be playing in the field again, I haven't been producing since [Deadwood Manager Johnny] Bench started using me as a DH," said Sheffield. Lopez, who is coming off a broken knee cap, will DH for the remainder of the season.
-Catcher DON SLAUGHT will not become manager of AAA Dodge City for the foreseable future. Slaught will remain the starting catcher for the Outlaws. Dodge City manager Ray Knight's future remains cloudy.
-With the trading deadline looming, Deadwood GM Philip Raisor is content with the ball club, and no major deals are expected. Says Raisor, "I was looking for some pitching, but I wasn't willing to give up to much offense to get it. I think we'll do okay. Besides, [Jeff] Fassero should be back in a couple of weeks, and that should give us a shot in the arm. I just hope we haven't fallen too far behind before then." It is still rumored, however, that RF MOISES ALOU is available, and that Raisor would like to move his sallary in case the rumored sallary cap becomes reality.
