(Seattle)...The Mariners would like to announce that RHP Jeff Brantley will be taking over the closer position from Jose Mesa for the immdiate future. Mesa currently has six saves, but has an ERA of over 5, while Brantley, who was released by Hartfield before the season, has an ERA of 0.75. Mariner spokesman Philip Raisor denies rumors that when Mesa was told of the change that he attacked Brantley in the clubhouse. "Jose and Jeff did have an argument, but it did not turn physical," said Mariner outfielder Darrin Bragg.
