PVBL: Hartford Whalers
"We're the Best!"

November 25, 1997

At press time information was still not yet available on the final two games of the World Series. Thus, it would be old news before we relayed it to you anyway. Manager Chrabascz did release this statement, however:

"We're extremely proud to have played the way we did down the playoff stretch and we'd like to thank all the PVBL playoff teams for an exciting postseason. Just goes to show what records mean, we had the worst overall record of all the playoff teams. We'll see what happens in the offseason and hopefully we'll be in the show next season as well. In the meantime, enjoy it New England, your first World Champions of any kind since the 1986 Celtics!"

Cy Young Aware candidate, Greg Maddux, was less reserved for once in declaring, "We knew we were the best and we proved we were the best. No offense to Vero's coaching staff but just exactly how do you get swept in the World Series?" We're sure Vero Beach is wondering the same thing. Maddux finished 22-6 with an ERA WELL below 2.

Veteran infielder, Harold Reynolds was emotional in saying, "I'm just so happy to have gotten a ring before I retire...you have no idea."

QUESTION?

Alright, so where the heck are the postseason awards guys?!? Hartford was clear in stating that their Team MVP was Ken Griffey Jr. for the season with pitcher Aaron Sele receiving the 10th Man Award and John Burke being touted as the Rookie of the Year with his 11 wins. (We'll have a series MVP once we have more info on what happened in the last two games.)
