After sweeping then first-place Deadwood to open the week, Hartford has completed a sweep of Edmonton.Ê This is only the second time this season that the Whalers have completed back-to-back sweeps, both division rivals.Ê The games were'nt pretty and a couple of them were won in extra innings but Hartford continues to dominate at home, owning the most wins in all of PVBL at home.Ê Hartford and Deadwood are currently tied for first place in the McCoy division.Ê Hartford has won 7 straight while Deadwood has won 3 since being swept.Ê This has shaped up to be the best rivalry in the PVBL and perhaps, McCoy is arguably the most competetive division.Ê Manager Chrabascz had this to say of the Whalers' recent resurgence, "Everyone has really stepped up.Ê Our bullpen has finally solidified and done its job while Joe (Girardi) has become a respectable leadoff man.Ê Although Greg has struggled along with most of our starting rotation outside of John (Burke), we owe a lot to Aaron Sele, Chris Gott and Tony Saunders for their superb work out of the pen this past week or so."Ê He was guarded in avoiding predictions, however, when he stated, "I don't know about any of that.Ê We have a long way to go yet.Ê But don't worry, we may make some moves soon that will surprise you."
NOTES
Greg Maddux snapped his 3-game winless streak today by finally winning his 11th game of the season in 4 attempts.Ê Maddux pitched 8 full, strong shutout innings against Edmonton, striking out 8.Ê His ERA is back down to 2.14
