Hartford Falls to Cockeysville

The Hartford Whalers lost a heart-breaking 4-3 decision to Cockesyville today as Huisman picked up the loss in relief of Rhodes. Chrabascz said of Rhode performance, "Arthur matched Pedro (Martinez) pitch for pitch. What could I possibly be disappointed about? He pitched 6 strong innings and allowed only one earned run while striking out 9 to record 1/2 of his outs. The kid just earned himself another few starts and has gotten himself off the trading block, that's for damn sure. Rick, on the other hand, just hasn't been himself lately and has blewn a slew of games for us. Hope he turns it around." Was that a threat? Regardless, Deadwood moved to within 1 game of Hartford on the loss. The Whalers will look to rebound as Greg Maddux takes the mound against Galena tomorrow. Maddux was shelled in his last outing, getting tagged for 8 earned runs in less than 3 innings of work. He's confident he's healthy and ready, "We'll win tomorrow. Keep the cameras on me."

TRADE WINDS

Hartford owner Chrabascz is apparently sick of hearing from the same active teams in trade talks, namely Washington, Larimer, Ponxatawney, Sacramento, etc. "Aren't there any other friggin' owners out there willing to wheel and deal a little? Spokane, for example, has blown its huge division lead because it's relied on McGwire but hasn't made any moves. Ridiculous. I'm sick of hearing from the same owners ove and over...I've got 'em all on speed dial!"

Hartford is still looking anxiously for another solid starting pitcher and a shortstop. The Whalers have been extremely disappointed with Kurt Abbott.
