Manager Jeremy Chrabascz has announced that newly acquired starting pitcher, Cal Eldred, will assume the role of 4th starter in the Hartford rotation with rookie John Burke moving to the 5th spot. Eldred said, "I'll be glad to get such immediate action and a quick opportunity to hopefully produce for the Whale. I'm just sorry Burke had to be pushed back in the rotation and Aaron (Sele) knocked out. I'd hate to do that to anyone." Sele wasn't surprised, "I have yet to produce as a starter here in Hartford. Why would I be surprised?" John Burke had little criticism of the move, "I'll continue to do my job as long as I continue to be afforded the opportunity. Fifth, first, what's the difference?" Chrabascz hopes Cal provides an immediate spark, "Cal's got great speed and control. If he can paint the corners these season we could end up with three of the top strikeout pitchers in the EL in Maddux, McDonald and Eldred. I have a feeling his ERA in Larimer was a product of the atmosphere and little patience and faith from John Dybala. After all, he still manages a winning record despite all of that (2-0). Besides, our pitching staff needs some fresh blood and some new juice. Cal sounds fired up so hopefully it will rub off some." Chrabascz is also reportedly in the market for a new pitching coach as current pitching coach, Mike Boddicker, has apparently put his Boston home up for sale. It is reported that both Bob Stanley and Dennis Lamp have been seen going in and out of Chrabascz's office of late.
In other news...
NOTE: With today's split in Cockeysville, the Deadwood Outlaws moved to within 2 games of Hartford. Hartford has lead the division all season long, thus far. It would appear that this streak is in jeopardy.
