Hartford Takes Two Wild Ones From Galena

The Hartford Whalers took two, high-scoring, wild affairs at home against Galena today. Hartford won Game 1 11-9 behind some superb relief work by Chris Gott (3-3) who picked up his first win as a Whaler. The second game saw rookie sensation John Burke allow 3 earned runs in 3 2/3 after which his was yanked. The Whalers won Game 2, 11-6 as Tony Saunders (3-1) came out of the pen to pitch our strong innings for his 3rd win. DH Mark Whiten had his most productive day as a member of the Whalers. Whiten shined in Game 2 going 2 for 3 with a career-high 5 RBI on a double and his 3rd homer of the season along with a walk. Meanwhile, Strawberry went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and Gwynn was a perfect 3 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. Interim manager, Catherine Chrabascz, was extremely pleased with the Whaler's efforts, "I'm really happy for the guys. They played their hearts out. I didn't have much to do with it." The team disagreed. Team leader and veteran All-Star, Greg Maddux made ths following observation, "The boys really pulled together today but, ultimately, Cathy managed herself to two well-deserved victories. She made the right pitching changes at the right times. We may just have to have her fill a permanent position down here." Regular manager Jeremy Chrabascz could not be reached for comment as he recovered from oral surgery today in his suburban apartment.

Trade Winds

The Whalers would like it to be known that everyone but Griffey and Maddux are available for another SOLID, proven #2 or #3 starting pitcher.

And to whoever had Paul Quantrill out there...Yes, we're interested. Make an offer, please.
